On Thursday 14th at Whitland Town Hall, Angela Burns AM chaired a meeting for a community group to be set up to look at the possibilities of Renewable Energy Sources within the local Whitland area.
After a lively debate, the community has decided to start a group called “Whitland Renewable Energy Group”. They will look at wind, solar, hydro and biomass/anaerobic digester possibilities within the local area to take advantage of available funding and programs from the Welsh Assembly and European Union.
Angela Burns commented, “These schemes have been very successfully implemented in other areas of Wales benefitting the whole community. One such scheme has got to the point of funding solar panels on every household to generate their own electricity”
“This really demonstrates how a local community can make a huge difference for its inhabitants, by taking control and working hard for the future. It is a very exciting project that everyone can become involved in locally and clearly demonstrates a local community trying to make a difference for all”.
