Cold Callers will receive short shrift in Mochdre as the whole village is designated a Cold Calling Controlled Zone.
Over the last few months, Conwy Trading Standards have been working with North Wales Police and local residents to set up Cold Calling Controlled Zones throughout the County.
In Mochdre, the ‘whole village’ designation aims to deter cold callers from visiting any home in the area.
The Zones have been set up throughout Conwy with funding from the Welsh Assembly Government and are designed to help reduce crime committed by rogue traders and reduce the fear of crime associated with people calling at your door uninvited.
If a resident living in a Controlled Zone is cold called they should contact Conwy Trading Standards on (01492) 575220 or North Wales Police on 101 for assistance and legal action can potentially be taken against the caller.
Tobi Smith, Trading Standards Enforcement Officer said:
“We believe Mochdre is one of the first in Wales for the entire village to be designated a Controlled Zone. The feedback from residents and colleagues has been fantastic, we believe that by implementing the Cold Calling Controlled Zones the amount of doorstep crime is being reduced significantly and we are hoping this success continues.”
Ifan Hughes, Divisional Crime Reduction Officer for North Wales Police, working with the Community Safety Partnership said:
“We have to protect the vulnerable from rogue traders and by working in partnership we can set up more Cold Calling Controlled Zones in Conwy County Borough.”
The County Councillor for Mochdre is Cllr Adrian Tansley, he said “I am extremely pleased that Conwy Trading Standards and North Wales Police have worked with local residents to make Mochdre a Cold Calling Controlled Zone. I think the scheme offers reassurance and will improve the quality of life for local residents.”
