Thousands of children and young people in Swansea will be able to look forward to a fun-packed summer holiday that will not bust the budget.
The Swansea Council-led Splat activities for five to 13-year-olds and Skool’s Out activities for 11 to 19-year-olds mean the long holidays will filled with more affordable activities and entertainment than ever before.
Last year there were almost 30,000 attendances during the summer and once again this year all activities will be discounted or free.
The Council and a host of local activity providers are offering sports from BMX riding, kayaking, skating and surfing to swimming, rock climbing, badminton and table tennis.
Indoor fun also includes Pirates at the National Waterfront Museum and the Circus Stars reading challenge at local libraries.
There will be fun in the city’s parks with the Junior Park Rangers, Play on Wheels and even a holiday play scheme at Swansea Children’s Centre.
Cllr Chris Holley, Leader of the Council, said: “School summer holidays should leave young people with fantastic memories and give them a chance to develop skills and experiences outside the classroom.
“Given the current economic climate Swansea Council’s Out of School Hours Learning team have been working hard this year getting grants and talking to businesses to provide many of the activities free or at a subsidised rate.
“This ensures the programmes are both more affordable and inclusive. There is something for everyone to do this summer and that’s great for the youngsters, their families and their communities too.”
