Wildlife cameras will soon be installed at Swansea’s historic Brynmill Park thanks to a cash boost.
The cameras will allow staff at the park’s discovery centre to monitor the activities of wildlife and broadcast live footage to visitors.
This means people will soon be able to get a closer look than ever at the ducks, swans, nesting birds, squirrels and other creatures living at the park.
The new equipment will also double-up as security cameras.
The investment is part of a £1.3million project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund to revamp the park and restore it to its Victorian splendour.
It will also include the introduction of new picnic benches, railings, gates and interpretation materials.
Steve Hopkins, Swansea Council Specialist Parks Development Officer, said: “Brynmill Park is already a very popular attraction but this latest investment will further raise its profile.
“The viewing stations at the discovery centre offer fantastic views of the feeding stations, an activity course for squirrels and the wildlife on the lake but the cameras mean we’ll be able to broadcast live footage and get a closer look than ever before.
“This will not only benefit the public but will also be a very useful research tool for staff at the park and wildlife enthusiasts.”
The recent overall revamp at Brynmill Park included the construction of the discovery centre, the introduction of a new children’s playground and the refurbishment of the park’s bowling pavilion.
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “It’s our intention to ensure the people of Swansea have access to the very best parks and open spaces as they contribute to the superb work-life balance for which the city is renowned.
“The discovery centre and the new children’s playground at Brynmill Park have been major hits since their introduction and this latest wave of funding means we’ll be able to further improve what’s already a wonderful experience in the park.”
