Speaking in this afternoon’s Assembly debate on remote rural areas, Shadow Minister for Rural Affairs, Brynle Williams AM, highlighted the need to provide isolated communities with services tailored to their needs.
The North Wales AM said the closure of community facilities such as post offices, shops, schools and pubs had had a damaging impact on local life, and warned that depopulation is making matters worse.
Mr Williams added:
“It is one thing to look into the problems of these communities – but quite another to genuinely solve them.
“The Assembly Government is failing to meet the needs of people in these communities.
“A real improvement will only be possible with a long-term commitment to address the specific problems of rural Wales.”
