Jenny Willott, the Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, has today called on the Government to support investment in green technology to help increase employment in Wales.
She hit out at claims that measures to combat climate change were at odds with building the economy and that support to tackle climate change could ‘put the country out of business’.
She urged the Government to support green investment in Wales to help create new jobs in emerging industries.
Commenting she said:
“Those who claim we must choose between tackling climate change or creating jobs are being short sighted. Many countries around the world are desperate to become world leaders in green technologies as they know it is vital to the future of their economy and Wales shouldn’t be left behind.
“Wales has perfect conditions for creating new, green jobs in wind, wave and solar technologies. We need to harness the resources we have and the expertise produced by our universities to strengthen this emerging part of our economy.
“I very much hope that clear heads will prevail and that the Government will strongly support green investment and the fight against climate change.”
