The WLGA welcomes the announcement by the Minister for Social Justice and Local Government of an additional £10 million to relieve pressures on Council budgets in 2010-11.
In making his announcement of £5.5 million revenue grant and £4.5 million capital grant, the Minister has recognised the particular pressures facing Children’s social services revenue budgets and capital budgets for minor works to community facilities.
Councillor Rodney Berman (Cardiff), WLGA Finance spokesperson said:
“Councils are facing a wide range of pressures in terms of reducing income and increasing demands on services and we welcome this additional funding in these difficult times. The additional funding is unhypothecated and the flexibility surrounding these grants is especially welcome, allowing Councils to free up funding that can be used for the next financial year. The particular pressures that the Minister has recognised were both highlighted in the Expenditure Sub Group report 2010 and continue to be areas in need of additional spend.”
