The WLGA has welcomed the publication of the Mathias Review, the independent review into the recent electoral review process in Wales.
Cllr John Davies (Pembrokeshire), WLGA Leader said:
“We will need to read through the detail of the Mathias Report, however, it contains a number of recommendations which should lead to significant improvements in the electoral review process in the future. Glyn Mathias and his team have conducted a thorough and extensive review of the electoral review process, which identifies a number of opportunities to learn from and build on policy and practices in England and Scotland.”
“Despite our concerns around the electoral review process to date, the WLGA has sought to work constructively with the Boundary Commission. Following the Minister’s announcement this afternoon, we will be seeking an early meeting with interim Commissioners following their appointment to discuss how local authorities and the Boundary Commission can work together towards delivering effective electoral reviews ahead of the 2016 elections.”
