A Caerphilly county borough woman has been fined £235 for a littering offence.
A woman has been taken to court and fined a total of £235 for a littering offence in the area of HengoedCaerphilly county borough.
She was initially given a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) of £75, however as a result of non-payment of this fine, the matter was pursued through court.
The case was heard recently at Abertillery Magistrates Court – the defendant did not attend court therefore the case was proven in her absence. She was fined £175 for the offence, ordered to pay £45 prosecution costs and victim surcharge of £15.
Cllr Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for the environment said, “Littering in any form is an offence, whether throwing a cigarette from the window of a car, dropping a crisp packet to the ground or discarding chewing gum on the floor.
This behaviour will not be tolerated, there is no excuse for littering and those responsible will face consequences for their actions.
Where non-payment of a Fixed Penalty Notice occurs, we pursue the matter through court without exception. I hope that prosecutions such as this show the small minority that failing to take their environmental responsibilities seriously could cost them dearly.”
