Work on rebuilding the Gwyn Hall in Neath is progressing

A milestone has been reached in the renovation when a pedestrian operated self-erecting crane has been rolled into town.

The 30 metre high crane is an Acromet A42 with a 42 metre length boom and a lift capacity of 4 tonnes.

It towers above the final roof structure by 12 metres allowing the crane to lift heavy building materials into place.

The next phase of works will be casting the concrete floors, installing the internal steel frame and constructing the roof.  It is planned for the building to be partially weatherproof by the end of October.

The Contractor is Morgan Sindall and the Council expects the work to be completed in time for a grand re-opening in October 2011.

When completed the Gwyn Hall will boost a new 400 seat state of the art community theatre, a 140 capacity studio venue, a 70 seat cinema and a new cafe.

The Leader of Council, Councillor Ali Thomas, said, ‘I am delighted to see the Gwyn Hall progressing well.  The Gwyn Hall will once again be the focal point for Neath and will be an Arts venue that everyone in the County Borough can be proud of.
