Work has started on improving St John’s Church in Rhosymedre, Wrexham after a £17,500 donation from a construction company.
The Wates Foundation was so impressed with the Church’s plans for the building that they agreed to donate the money and the cheque was officially presented to the Vicar – Reverend Aidan Coleman – on Wednesday.
At the beginning of December, work started at St John’s to remove some of pews from the back of the church to create meeting rooms, a kitchen and toilet facilities. This should pave the way for a Mental Health project called “Anchor Point” to be run out of the updated Church premises when the work is finished.
The money received from Wates was added to £65,000 raised for the project separately and has enabled the work to begin.
Reverend Aidan Coleman, Vicar at St John’s said:
“The £17,500 from Wates was an answer to prayer because we didn’t have the means to raise that money ourselves so it tipped the balance in getting the first phase of our project off the ground.
“The building work will be finished by March and the rooms will be available immediately – we can then start looking at employing a mental health worker for the Anchor Point project.”
