Work to install a new pedestrian crossing on a busy North Wales road finally got underway this week after a 4 year long campaign.
The building work to create the crossing on Penrhyn Avenue has finally begun after Clwyd West AM Darren Millar, local councillors and campaigners held meetings, raised funds and pressed Conwy County Borough Council for years to improve safety on the busy road. New loading bays and resident parking facilities will also be created as part of the scheme.
Darren Millar AM said:
“It’s been almost 4 years since the start of the campaign to improve safety on Penrhyn Avenue so I’m delighted that work is finally underway on the new crossing.
“Once the crossing is up and running it will make the area much safer for children accessing the local schools and residents going about their daily business.
“I want to pay tribute to Lyndsay French for her fundraising efforts and to Conwy County Council’s Highways Department for listening to the concerns of local residents and addressing the concerns of shopkeepers affected by the scheme.
“I look forward to seeing the work finished soon.”
