Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has cut the sod for a new, state of the art dementia care centre in Abergele.

The multi-million pound facility will provide 48 bedrooms and will be built on a plot at the eastern side of the North Wales Business Park, on the outskirts of the town.

K&C Construction of Kinmel Bay have won the contract to build the home and they expect to complete the project within 12 months.

Darren said:

“I am delighted that this project is underway. Research indicates there is a growing need for dementia care homes in North Wales and this home will provide much needed support for this vulnerable group in society.”

“It will also create 100 new jobs in the town, which is very welcome news.”

He added:

“Dementia will increasingly effect all our lives and it is crucial that we ensure we have the very latest facilities and approaches available to us here in Wales. I look forward to visiting this state of the art facility upon completion next year.”

Mark Bailey of Fairways Care added: ““This community could not have come to fruition without the guidance of Prof Bob Woods and the Dementia Services Development Centre at the University of Wales. We owe him a huge debt for his meticulous design input.”
