Working together with residents this Christmas

Gwent Police and Caerphilly County Borough Council are building on the success of previous years’ activity in the Blackwood area during the weeks leading up to Christmas, by launching a ‘one stop shop’ for the community and visitors shopping in Blackwood.

The service which will be formally launched on Friday 3rd December 2010, will be available between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday during the 3 week run up to Christmas.

The service will be located within Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Customer First Centre, in Blackwood’s Market Place.

As well as popping in for general advice and information literature relating to staying safe over the Christmas period, the desk will also operate as a front office away from Blackwood Police Station where residents can produce their driving documents, report lost property and arrange a home visit from a local Neighbourhood Officer.

In addition to the desk being staffed by a Station Enquiry Officer, a member of the local Neighbourhood Policing Team will be available at the shop daily between 12:30 and 13:30 to hold a police surgery.

Blackwood Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector, Kevin Childs said: ‘We chose to operate the campaign from the Customer First Centre as it is perfectly located in the centre of the town, close to the High Street, car parks and bus station. We hope that our presence over the next few weeks will add to the outstanding work and services already being delivered at the centre by our partners at Caerphilly County Borough Council.’

Cllr Rob Gough, Cabinet Member for Public Protection, Engineering and Transport said, ‘I am delighted that we are working in collaboration with our colleagues at Gwent Police to help ensure our residents have a safe and pleasant Christmas. By pooling our resources, we are able to provide a convenient, single port of call for Blackwood residents to discuss any issues they may have’.
