The refurbishment works to the A548 Foryd Road Bridge have been completed successfully and the bridge is open to normal traffic again.
Denbighshire County Council’s Highways and Infrastructure department working with contractors, Dawnus Construction, have successfully completed the £0.5m scheme on time and to budget despite having to deal with difficult weather conditions and the having to carry out larger repairs to the concrete deck than anticipated.
Works were carried out both above and below road level. Below the deck, the ends of the bridge were lifted up by hydraulic jacks to allow the replacement of the bridge support bearings. Above deck, a new waterproof membrane was applied to prevent water penetrating to the steel supporting beam and a new asphalt surface laid over this. The expansion joints and drainage were also overhauled.
During the works, delays to traffic were inevitable, so, to complete the work as quickly as possible, the works above and below the bridge were carried out at the same time and work continued both day and night as well as at weekends.
Cabinet Lead Member for Environment, Councillor Sharon Frobisher, said: “I’d like to thank the public for their patience during this essential maintenance work on the Foryd Harbour bridge. Further work to the bridge will be needed in the future, but we expect that much of this can be carried out without disruption to traffic.”
