A free workshop on how Welsh businesses can benefit from using social media will be held on Tuesday, November 9, at Swansea’s Marriott Hotel, by Software Alliance Wales – the recently-launched £13million pan-Wales project led by Swansea University.
The hour-long workshop, from 6.30pm until 7.30pm, is entitled ‘Social Media as a Business Tool’ and will be delivered by Dr Max L Wilson, Lecturer at Swansea University’s Future Interaction Technologies Laboratory (FIT Lab).
The event will provide delegates with up-to-date, valuable information on how their businesses can use social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter as an effective communication and marketing tool, to enhance their businesses.
Speaking ahead of the event, Dr Max L Wilson said: “Social media is without doubt the single most influential change to how individuals and businesses now gather information and communicate messages. With over 90 million tweets posted each day, and with many people spending more time on Facebook than Google, the power of these tools shouldn’t be ignored.
“Some businesses may have already flirted with aspects of social networking and social media, but very few are truly comfortable with the potential that it has for their business.
“This workshop aims to provide businesses and individuals with the knowledge and confidence to fully utilise the opportunities available for their business via social media platforms.”
Dr Neal Harman, Project Director of Software Alliance Wales and Lecturer at Swansea University’s School of Physical Sciences, added: “This workshop is part of a programme of events by Software Alliance Wales, which aim to offer support to ICT businesses and professionals working in the industry in Wales to ensure they keep abreast of the rapid pace of technological developments.”
The Software Alliance Wales project, which is led by Swansea University in collaboration with the University of Glamorgan, Bangor University, Aberystwyth University and University of Wales, Trinity Saint David, comprises four specific strands identified to support businesses in Wales.
Business ICT Workshops is one of those strands, and the project has established a series of workshops in the coming months, aimed at engaging and supporting businesses across Wales’s convergence areas.
The project has also created a recognised ICT Continuous Professional Development programme, for professionals to acquire new skills in the latest emerging technologies.
It will also help businesses gain Accredit UK certification – a quality benchmark recognised throughout the UK.
The certification is designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of companies in the ICT Sector, as well as offering students the opportunity to undertake collaborative ICT based development projects within SMEs, to improve their learning while providing knowledge and expertise for the businesses involved.
