A North Wales Assembly Member has used World Book Day to urge a local authority to reconsider its proposals to close libraries in his constituency.
Conwy County Borough Council is currently consulting on the closure of a number of libraries across the area, including in Kinmel Bay and Cerrigydrudion. Clwyd West AM Darren Millar is urging them to re-consider their proposal.
Darren said:
‘We need to do everything we can to ensure that our libraries stay open.
‘These are important community facilities which many local people rely on for access to books, IT facilities and a host of other resources.
‘They’re particularly important in deprived communities such as Cerrigydrudion and Kinmel Bay – both of which have seen increasing numbers of visitors in recent years. Their closure would be a real blow for local residents.
‘World Book Day serves to celebrate books and reading in the UK. There couldn’t be a better way to mark this occasion than an announcement from the Council that the libraries are here to stay.’
