A mobile cancer support vehicle will be in Wrexham this week offering support to local residents who have been affected by prostate and testicular cancer.
The ManVan will be in Wrexham this Thursday (17 July) at Mecca Bingo car park from 10am and local Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths is a keen supporter of the initiative.
The ManVan is a joint venture between cancer charity Tenovus and health organisations Prostate Cancer UK and The Movember Foundation.
The vehicle is a converted, 38ft American-style motorhome. It travels to communities across Wales offering one to one counselling, couples’ counselling, group support and welfare rights advice to support men living with, and affected by prostate and testicular cancer.
Around 2,600 men are diagnosed with prostate or testicular cancer every year in Wales and while survival rates are improving, early diagnosis remains vital.
Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths said:
“Living with cancer can affect all areas of someone’s life. Dealing with the diagnosis and treatment is difficult enough, but there are also side effects to take into account such as the financial, emotional and psychological impact that can challenge men and their families.”
“Men are traditionally not always comfortable talking about their worries but the ManVan can help by offering support, advice and guidance to individuals and their loved ones.”
“On Thursday, the team will be at the Mecca Bingo car park in Wrexham from 10am and I would encourage residents to visit and make use of the facility.”
“I believe the ManVan is providing a vital service, supporting men with testicular and prostate cancer and ultimately improving men’s health across Wales.”
People affected by prostate or testicular cancer can contact the ManVan by calling 0808 808 1010, texting MANVAN to 66777 or logging onto www.tenovus.org.uk/manvan.
