Wrexham Council and Wrexham Athletics Club are celebrating after winning a top award at the Aviva UK Athletics Award ceremony in London. The club was honoured to receive the UK Athletics Club Partnership Award for its close liaison with Wrexham County Borough Council.
The two parties have developed a successful working relationship over several years which see the Athletics Club train at Queensway Stadium two evenings a week as well as hosting a series of high profile events together including the U17/U20 Track and Field Championships with Welsh Athletics and the Northern England Senior League fixtures.
Wrexham Council’s Sports Development team have worked closely with Wrexham Athletics Club to gain access to Sport Wales Community Chest funding for coach recruitment and education, assisting with the integration of the Special Olympics Group events into the sporting calendar and further partnership work with schools and further education bodies.
Wrexham Athletics Club Secretary, Bob Frost said:
“Wrexham beat off stiff competition from Oxford and Glasgow following an extremely successful athletics season and our triumph at the Welsh Athletics Awards earlier this year.
“I’d like to thank everyone who is involved with Wrexham Athletics Club and the Wrexham Council Officers for their hard work and dedication in making our club and partnership a resounding success.”

The awards celebrated British Athletics and recognised the voluntary workforce with clubs, coaches, volunteers, officials and collaborative working being rewarded on the night.
