Staff at a Wrexham store have filled a make-up bag of cash for a cancer charity after giving feel good make-overs to customers for a small donation.
The Boots store at Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre was raising funds for their chosen charity of the year, Macmillan Cancer Support.
According to store manager Jo Stringfellow, customers have been very generous in their support.
She said: “We raised funds for Macmillian Cancer Support through a similar St David’s Day event and raised more than £400.
“We are hoping to beat that figure so we can raise as much money as possible for what is a very worthwhile cause.”
Boots sales assistant Paige Tomlinson revealed sales of specially prepared Macmillian cupcakes had really boosted the store’s charity appeal.
She said: “It’s been fantastic. As well as selling cupcakes we are holding a raffle and a competition to guess the value of a hamper which is packed with beauty products.
“And our No 7 beauty consultants are offering mini-makeovers for a suggested donation of just £2.
Among them was Ceri Evans who has been on a course run by Macmillan Cancer Support learning how to treat and look after women who have suffered cancer or are undergoing cancer treatment.
She said: “I got a huge amount out of what was quite an emotional training course. Of course we learnt how to help women who have lost all their hair through the side effects of chemotherapy.
“We can help them pencil in eyebrows and eyelashes things like that and advise on the right products for their skin which can be affected by the chemo and other treatments.”
“We were also taught how to listen and be a shoulder to lean on. I have some regular customers that have been treated for cancer and some of them like to talk. I think it’s important that we are here to listen.
“Sometimes having someone who isn’t a close family relative or friend but is prepared to listen for however long someone wants to talk is important. It’s about having empathy and having a good ear.”
She added: “We have 12 ladies booked in for mini-makeovers which will include advice on make-up techniques and skin care.
“Macmillian Cancer Care is such a worthwhile charity and we are determined to raise as much as we can as a store and as a national business.”
Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre manager Kevin Critchley said: “I’m delighted Boots staff are supporting Macmillian Cancer Care and it comes as no surprise to hear that Eagles Meadow shoppers and visitors are supporting the fundraising campaign.
“The amount of charity fundraising that goes on at many of our shops, restaurants and other outlets here at Eagles Meadow is amazing.
“However, we could never raise the amount of charity cash that we do without the support of our shoppers and visitors.”
