Caring bowling alley staff have come up with an egg-xcellent idea to make children at a hospice smile.
The merry band at Tenpin at the Eagles Meadow shopping centre in Wrexham have launched a drive to collect Easter eggs for children at Hope House Children’s Hospices.
They have two hospices, Hope House near Oswestry and Tŷ Gobaith in the Conwy Valley.
The charity supports hundreds of families from across North and Mid Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire, providing specialist nursing care and support to life-limited children, young people and young adults.
Lucy Benson, the Deputy Manager at Tenpin, said: “I just hope it makes a difference to them even if it’s just a smile. Hope House is a fantastic charity. They do so much for the children they work with and their families to make their lives better.
“We’re urging our customers to donate as many Easter eggs as possible.
“The staff have been very enthusiastic about bringing in Easter eggs. We’re a family at Tenpin and everybody gets involved.
“I used to love getting Easter eggs when I was little. I don’t get many anymore, though Andy the manager did buy me one this year.
“It’s nice when you get Easter eggs as a kid. I remember how I used to count them all.”
Hope House needs to raise £4 million a year to maintain their vital services for children with life-limiting conditions.
Hospice fund-raiser Rachel Jones is bowled over by the idea.
She said: “We care for over 260 life limited children and their families and over 300 bereaved families from all across North and Mid Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire.
“Our bereavement services are open to any family in the community who have lost a child in any circumstance such as a road traffic accident, fire, cot death or other situation. We also provide support for children who have suffered a traumatic loss of a loved one.
“Our catchment area is vast and at the dawn of a new year we need to raise £4 million just to cover our running costs. People are often surprised to learn that we take children from most of Cheshire as well as Shropshire.
“In Wales our area covers just about all of North and Mid-Wales as far south as the Brecon Beacons.
” We receive just 18% from the NHS and other statutory bodies. The rest of our funding comes from the generosity of our local communities and businesses which is why it is so kind of Tenpin to think of Hope House this Easter. I’m sure the eggs will be a welcome treat!”
Eagles Meadow manager Kevin Critchley is Egg-static about the Tenpin’s idea.
He said: “I think the fact that the staff at Tenpin collecting Easter eggs for children at Hope House is brilliant. I will do my best to egg them on.”
