Wrexham Community Safety Partnership has been recognised at a national awards ceremony for its innovative use of technology during a recent campaign.
The partnership has two reasons to celebrate following the How-Do Public Services Communications Awards 2010 which took place in Manchester earlier this week.
The Partnership beat hundreds of entrants to win the coveted first prize for ‘Most Innovative use of New Media’ for the ‘He-says/She says’ campaign. The campaign also finished runner-up in the ‘Most Integrated Communications Campaign’.
The accolades were shared with Gencia Media, whose support and commitment to the campaign on the ground were key to ensuring successful deployment and response.
The Sexual Violence Prevention campaign Entitled ‘He-says/She says’, embraced mobile media and web to engage young people on their thoughts and attitudes towards a range of scenarios surrounding sexual violence .
With the opportunity to win a VIP night out to take part, the campaign achieved almost 2500 responses from young people in the first 4 days offering crucial data from which the Wrexham Community Safety Partnership could develop future campaigns and progress work in relation to their Sexual Violence Strategy.
The campaign attracted a great deal of media interest with radio stations and the BBC picking up on the innovative nature of delivery. The Home Office also commented favourably on the manner in which such a sensitive and traditionally difficult subject managed to engage so many young people.
Speaking about the achievement Chief Superintend Ruth Purdie, Chair of the Community Safety Partnership said:
“The subject of sexual violence is an extremely sensitive one and this innovative campaign has enabled us to reach more young people in a private, engaging and measurable way. This approach – coupled with the commitments from the Community Safety Partnership and Yale College – meant we were able to receive extraordinary results.”
Councillor Bob Dutton Lead Member Communities and Performance said:
“This is an excellent example of partnership work at its very best I am delighted that Wrexham Community Safety Partnership has been recognised for what was an innovative and hugely successful campaign.”
