Wrexham will be just one of two Welsh communities hosting a visiting Commonwealth Games team.
The town’s MP, Ian Lucas, has met with people working to welcome the Lesotho Commonwealth Games team to the town and says he is very much looking forward to their visit. Mr Lucas discussed the visit with staff at Glyndwr University on Tuesday.
Lesotho has long-standing links with Wales and with Wrexham. Schools across Wrexham have twinned with schools in Lesotho and Mr Lucas has visited the county twice and spoken at events in its Parliament. The Lesotho Olympics team also visited Wrexham and used sports facilities in the town before the 2012 Olympic Games.
Mr Lucas said: “I understand that just two Commonwealth countries – New Zealand and Lesotho – will be based in Wales before the Games. It is testament to the friendships that Wrexham people have forged that the Lesotho team will be coming here once more. Those friendships have been formed by all kinds of people in our community – from our university staff and students to our primary school pupils.
“I am looking forward to Wrexham welcoming the Lesotho team again this summer.”
