Following consultation regarding the proposals to introduce on street parking charges in Wrexham town centre a report is being prepared which will recommend Executive Board do not proceed with the proposals.
The Executive Board agreed on 5th April to carry out the Consultation with the Town Centre Forum and the Town and Community Council’s in respect of the on-street parking charges, 50p for 30 minutes, £1.00 per hour.
Despite the objections to the charging proposals, a number of other parking, traffic management and passenger transport access issues, ideas and opportunities have emerged from this informal consultation exercise. These will be considered further and presented to Members in September.
Cllr David Bithell Lead Member for Transport and Deputy Leader of the council said:
“Following the informal consultation with key stakeholders it is clear there is no support for introducing on street parking charges in the town centre. It has been agreed to report this to the Executive Board next week.
This follows the consultation and presentation made to the Town Centre Forum and we do not want to spend any further resources or officer time on these proposals. I know other members of the council have also raised their concerns about the effects this may have to local businesses.
“These are very difficult and challenging times both for local businesses, members of the public and the council. We have taken on board their views and comments and recognise the concerns raised in the consultation process carried out.
“I would like to thank everyone involved in the consultation process for their valuable input and for raising their concerns regarding the issues surrounding town centre access and car parking.”
