Proposals to boost Wrexham’s transport links have been discussed at a meeting with rail bosses in Parliament.
Wrexham MP Ian Lucas met with Network Rail staff at a special event in Westminster to discuss Wales and Borders rail routes, including those serving Wrexham and linking the town to other communities in Wales and the North West of England. Among the routes under discussion during the event was the Wrexham to Chester rail line, which Network Rail and the Welsh Government will be upgrading in the near future.
Under the proposals, much of the track which was reduced to single track in the 1980s will be re-dualled.
The meeting is one of several Mr Lucas has held in Westminster recently aimed at boosting rail links for the town – he also joined a cross-party group of MPs late last month who are aiming for better links between Wrexham, Shrewsbury, and London.
Mr Lucas said: “I have long advocated better rail transport for Wrexham, and have worked to bring all those who want to boost our links together. It was good to catch up with Network Rail staff and to discuss their exciting plans for Wrexham, and I will continue pushing to ensure our town gets the best possible transport services.”
