A Wrexham school is celebrating after winning the Show Choir/Glee competition at the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod.
Ysgol Morgan Llwyd took the international trophy and the £500 prize while Bitesize Youth Theatre, which is also based in the town, took third place and pocketed £200 in prize money.
Saint Peter’s Prep Vox, a choir of young men from New Jersey in the USA took second place in what proved to be a fiercely competitive competition while Knowsley Glee Club were fourth.
Members of the Ysgol Morgan Llwyd choir, who sang Hairspray by Marc Shaiman, Seize the day by Alan Hanken and O Gymru by Rhys Jones, were clearly delighted to have won the competition.
Choir member Catrin Williams, 18, said everyone had worked so hard preparing for the Eisteddfod and it had been an amazing experience.
She said: “It’s been fantastic and I we are all absolutely ecstatic to have won the competition. We knew we had performed well but you never know how the adjudicators will see it.”
Fellow choir member, Dewi Griffiths, 18, added: “Absolutely amazing and we are all thrilled. It has been a great experience and the competition was very strong. We really did have to be at our very best to win.”
