A student from Wrexham has visited Westminster and shadowed the town’s MP to mark International Women’s Day.
Wrexham MP Ian Lucas welcomed Jessica Seager to Westminster yesterday, where the Coleg Cambria student shadowed Mr Lucas for the day, learning more about his work and about Parliament. During the day, she followed Mr Lucas’ work in the Houses of Parliament, met a number of politicians including members of the Shadow Cabinet and veteran Labour MP Dennis Skinner, and toured Parliament.
The visit was organised by Mr Lucas with assistance from Coleg Cambria and was part of a cross-party scheme which MPs throughout Parliament took part in to mark International Women’s Day on March 8. Organised by the All Party Group for Women in Parliament, the “inspiring Change” brought young women from across the UK to Parliament to find out more about how it works.
Mr Lucas said: “I’m fully committed to making sure young people are engaged with politics, and when this idea was put forward I was an enthusiastic supporter.
“I was delighted to welcome Jessica to Parliament and to show her some of the work that MPs do and I thought the day went very well.”
