An appeal has gone out to clothing and accessory designers to help launch Wrexham’s first ever fashion week – and put the county borough on the UK fashion map.
Fashion retailers, from big-name high street stores to small independent outlets, will be getting involved, as well as local hair and beauty businesses and students at Yale College.
Fashion Week is part of Wrexham’s Year of Culture programme and is designed to underline the town’s credentials as a top destination for fashionistas and provide a showcase for the area’s talented designers.
The week will kick-off at Eagles Meadow on Saturday, September 17, with Fashion on the Move.
Five roaming live shows will take place, as models make their way through Eagles Meadow.
They will be showcasing the latest season’s trends from retailers at the shopping centre.
The shows will culminate in a dance routine on the outdoor stage and there will be style advice and beauty demonstrations throughout the day.
Another highlight of Fashion Week will be the Future Stars event at The Studio Theatre at Yale College on Thursday, September 22. The show will feature work by local designers and items created by fashion students.
Local designers, both professional and amateur, who would like to take part in the event should contact the Year of Culture Team without delay.
Councillor Bob Dutton, Wrexham Council’s lead member for the Year of Culture project, said: “We already have some local designers lined up for the Future Stars event, but would love to hear from others who would like to showcase their work.
“Staging a fashion week is another great way to shout about and enjoy Wrexham’s culture and creativity, and I think the event will create a real buzz by bringing some of the glamour, excitement and fun of the fashion world to the town centre.”
Eagles Meadow Manager Kevin Critchley said: “We’re delighted to be involved in Fashion Week and we are confident that it will be a major success.
“It’s a great way of showcasing the work of some talented local designers and drawing attention to the fantastic array of fashion shops, both high street favourites and independent boutiques.
“We’ve always been the shopping capital of North Wales – and this is now going to put us on the UK fashion map.”
The week, which is being supported by local live event support company Mat-Crewing, will finish with a grand finale on Queens Square on Saturday, September 24.
