Wrexham Council’s Adult Social Care Department has today unveiled its new short term break facility on Wheatsheaf Lane in Gwersyllt.
The new service will allow carers to have a short break knowing their loved one is in a safe, secure and accessible environment.
“Park View” replaces two facilities G.A.T.E. based in Rhosddu which catered for people with a physical disability and the facility on Oak Drive in Acton which catered for people with learning disabilities.
The dual registered facility will be open 24 hours a day 7 days a week and staff have undertaken additional training in recent months to meet the recommendations of the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales to ensure the service will meet the highest standards expected by service users. Park View will be used to encourage and support people to improve their daily living skills and support them to access the community and also give them the opportunity to assist with the daily running of the house.
The Mayor officially opened the facility and paid tribute to those involved in bringing the facility to fruition and also to the community of Gwersyllt which he described as welcoming and supportive.
Andrew Figiel, Chief Social Care Officer, said:
“This facility will provide a first class environment for vulnerable adults to help them acquire the skills needed to live as independent a life as possible. It will also give their carers a break from what can be a demanding and challenging role. Staff are looking forward to working in the new facility and they have all embraced the opportunity to gain further skills in order to help those who attend Park View.”
