A multimillion pound regeneration project in Wrexham has been given the go-ahead.
Originally announced back in January, the Welsh Government’s Vibrant and Viable Places programme has seen Wrexham obtain over £10.5m to help regenerate areas of the town centre, as well as Communities First areas in Caia Park and Hightown.
With the funding now in place and further details announced, Assembly Member for Wrexham Lesley Griffiths has hailed the news and once again congratulated the Local Authority for all their hard work in securing the extra finance.
The funding predominantly aims to bring properties back to use and build new homes around the town centre. As well as new housing developments, two council-owned properties on the outskirts of the town centre will be renovated to become affordable childcare centres.
Altogether, the various regeneration projects will help create jobs, improve community facilities and provide greater opportunities for local residents.
Overall £36m is to be allocated to various projects across North Wales.
Lesley Griffiths AM said:
“Despite difficult economic circumstances and the cuts imposed by the UK Government, the Vibrant and Viable Places programme demonstrates the Welsh Government’s commitment to investing and regenerating communities across Wales.”
“Securing over £10.5 million is clearly fantastic news for the town and will make a big difference.”
“I am delighted the funding has been granted and things are moving forward. Having long supported the bid, I will continue to do all I can to help deliver the exciting, pioneering projects here in Wrexham.”
