Vale of Glamorgan Mayor Cllr Emlyn Williams is pictured with 89-year-old Mr Arthur Samuel, a resident of Bryneithin Residential Care Home, Dinas Powys, who recently received his Veteran’s Badge for service with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and the Rifle Brigade in Italy and Germany in the Second World War.
Mr Samuel met his late wife, Edith, a refugee from Gdansk, in Germany during the war, and they were married in Cardiff and lived in Grangetown. Mr Samuel, who has one daughter, Margo, and three grandchildren, worked in East Moors Steelworks before retirement in 1978.
