An eight week contract to alleviate flooding to properties within Monmouth’s Wyesham estate will commence on January 14th. Existing culverts will be repaired or replaced and a new structure and ditches will collect water running off the Kymin and fields above Tudor Road.
Residents have been affected by flooding for many years – most recently in September – and 80 households are at risk.
Monmouthshire County Council’s cabinet member for Modernisation, Enterprise & Communications, County Councillor Bob Greenland said: “I am very pleased and relieved for residents that this work will go ahead. It has been very sad to see people’s houses and property being flooded and it’s wonderful to see this being resolved”.
The council scheme is to receive £258,000 from the Welsh Government and £91,000 from the European Regional Development Fund. The balance of funding will be provided by the council.
The contractor is Alun Griffiths Ltd of Abergavenny while the consultants who have designed the scheme and will supervise work are Martin Wright Associates of Chester.
