Born from the ashes of John Peel favourites Murry the Hump Cardiff five-piece The Keys have set out to release four EPs in a year of which The Christmas EP is the second.
Recorded on 16 track tape for a more authentic sound The Keys are taking their classic 60s-influenced pop in new directions soaking up modern influences from the likes of Animal Collective’s Panda Bear and Spiritualized’s Jason Pearce.
Queuing up for Xmas is a delightfull slice of Beatles-esque pop. Somewhere trots along on effortlessly cool Rickenbacker riffs. There’s a place is a gorgeously dewy eyed strum, reminiscent of the down-tempo works of The Band and The Reveal is a delicately picked acoustic instrumental interlude. The traditional big finish comes in the shape of Strange Garden with its fizzing guitar, stomping drums and Hammond organs behind some Byrdsian harmonies.
Launch show December 11 at Tommy’s Bar Cardiff
