A 10m yacht, which ran aground east of the Valero oil refinery jetty on the Milford Haven Waterway, was towed to safety by RNLI Angle’s inshore lifeboat on Saturday (7 April).
The lifeboat was launched at 3.16pm, at the request of Milford Haven Coastguard, and her volunteer crew found that, although the tide was making, the northerly wind was blowing the yacht further onto the mud as she floated.
The lifeboat passed a tow to the yacht, which had three persons on board, and the vessel was pulled clear.
After the yacht’s skipper had established that no damage had been sustained to the stern-gear, the vessel continued her passage up the Haven and the lifeboat returned to her station at 3.45pm.
It was the second call-out in three days for the inshore lifeboat. On Thursday (5 April) she was launched at 5.28pm, at the request of the Coastguard, after two terrier dogs were reported in the sea off East Blockhouse, at the entrance to the Milford Haven Waterway.
The dogs had been missing for two hours when their distraught owner spotted them in the sea between East Blockhouse and West Angle.
When the lifeboat reached the scene the dogs had managed to scramble on to a rock, just off the base of the cliffs, and were successfully plucked to safety by the lifeboat volunteers.
The dogs’ owner then made her way to West Angle beach, where she was delighted to be reunited with the terriers, which were none the worse for their ordeal. The lifeboat returned to her station at 6.05pm.
