Have you ever wondered what happens in the new Caernarfon Criminal Justice Centre?
Well, now’s your chance to find out – and still keep on the right side of the law!
You are invited to step inside the court and discover what happens behind the scenes when you enter the Criminal Justice System.
The Caernarfon Criminal Justice Centre is holding a family open day tomorrow (Saturday, October 17) from 10am – 3pm.
This will be an opportunity to take a tour of the courts, watch a mock court trial, sample the state-of-the-art Video Link system, have your fingerprints taken, meet the judges and even get locked up in a cell! The public can also see how provisions are made in court hearings when the Welsh language is used.
There will also be an opportunity for the public to decide the fate of convicted criminals. But don’t worry! This is just an exercise at for the ‘You be the Judge’ event at 2pm, which gives members of the public the opportunity to hear real, recent, anonymous court cases and vote on the appropriate sentence using ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’ style voting consoles.
Representatives from professional and voluntary organisations involved in the running of the Criminal Justice Centre will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on their organisations including Witness and Victim support, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and North Wales Police.
Courts Manager Ffion Williams said: “It will be for many, a unique opportunity to look behind the scenes and to get a better perception of the court system than is sometimes portrayed on television.”
