Young Creative Talents to Win Awards for St David’s Day in Denbighshire

daffDenbighshire County Council is set to award creative youngsters for their artistic talents in a competition arranged to mark St David’s Day.

The Council arranged two competitions; one for infant age children to draw a picture that could be reproduced on a flag, and a competition for the juniors to compose a poem.

The winner of the design a picture competition was Lilly Jones from Ysgol Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd.  The winning design has been created into a flag which will be raised at County Hall from Friday, February 21st until March 3rd. The flag will then be given to the winner.

Alis Davies from Ysgol Pant Pastynog, Prion won the poem competition. Alis will receive a framed copy of the poem at a celebration ceremony being held at County Hall, Ruthin (on Friday, February 21).

14 of the county’s schools took part, with over 200 entries.

Councillor Raymond Bartley, Chairman of Denbighshire County Council, said:

“We were very pleased to see such a high standard in all of the work and we congratulate everyone for putting so much effort into their unique work and thank them for their time and effort.

“What we were looking for in the design competition was something which showed pride about living in Wales and also a strong clear picture which would look good as a flag.

“In the poetry competition, we were looking for something showed that the pupil had done a bit of research into the good work that St David had done for the people of Wales”.
