Young people living in mid Glamorgan received cash rewards for positive contributions they have made to society at an event organised by the High Sheriff recently.
Among the winners was the Miskin Crime and Safety Partnership Junior Group, which received £500 for work it has done to help young people turn away from crime and anti social behaviour in favour of education.
The work the group did to help reduce crime also managed to scoop them the Overall Cup Winner Award for 2010.
Chief Constable Peter Vaughan, who was at the event alongside the High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan to make the presentation, said:
“The group has forged strong links with the community and as a result has become well respected and liked for everything they have achieved.
“Under the guidance of the safety committee, which includes our very own Sergeant Stuart Williams, the group has become an effective force as they have adopted a mature and practical approach to engage effectively and on a level with other children, providing guidance about their situation,” he added.
The Junior Group also organised a Christmas concert for which they made and sold tickets, and promoted the event with flyers and publicity, to ensure it was a success and provided funding to help secure the future of the initiative.
The Youth Community Awards is in its second year, and took place at the building owned by main sponsors Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, who are based in Pencoed Technology Park in Bridgend.
