The Young Flintshire website has had a makeover and is to be re-launched at the seventh Connah’s Quay Festival on Sunday 20 June.
Young Flintshire is an interactive website that aims to help young people get all the things they are entitled to as a young person in Wales. One key update is that it now has a facility where young people can upload reviews, stories and articles about things that are important to them. It has a number of other new features including an events page, a database of services, and it will link to social networking sites, media players and Youtube. The site will be run by a Youth Editorial Group, supported by Flintshire Youth Service and the Children & Young People’s Partnership.
“The new and improved website will be a great opportunity for young people to share their views on everything and anything, and the launch event will be a chance for people to see the new site for the first time“ said Sarah Mitchell, a member of the Young Flintshire Youth Editorial Group and a Modern Apprentice within Flintshire County Council.
The seventh Connah’s Quay Festival will take place on 20 June between 10am and 7pm at Wepre County Park. This free event has been organised by Connah’s Quay Town Council and will include a fun fair, Capricorn Rescue dog show, Morris dancing competition, car boot sale, stalls and refreshment vans.
At the festival, Young Flintshire will be hosting a Youth Village which will include drumming workshops, Kendo, a recycled art workshop, information stands, a smoothie bike and music from local DJs. Local band ‘I am Austin’ will be playing, straight from Radio 1’s Big Weekend! There will also be a chance for a young person to win a Netbook if they visit the Village and enter the prize draw before 3pm.
Lisa Fearn, Town Centre Manager in Connah’s Quay said, “I’m really excited as this years Festival is bigger and better. Hopefully the weather will be great and everyone will have a really good time”.
The website will be officially launched at approximately 3.30 pm.
