Young golfers tee’d off at the Llangefni driving range yesterday (September 16th) as the new facility was officially opened.
The 16 bay flood-lit driving range forms part of the improved golfing experience available at the public golf course, which also includes three challenging new holes.
The project, backed by the County Council and Ryder Cup Legacy Fund, has also secured Llangefni’s status as the official golfing academy for North West Wales.
Council Chairman, Councillor O Glyn Jones, officially opened the driving range, with many of the Island’s best young golfers invited to join him for a few practice swings.
Education and Leisure portfolio holder, Councillor Goronwy Parry MBE, explained, “Thanks to this partnership, we’ve been able to develop a top class pay and play facility here at Llangefni, making the sport more accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds.
“The new driving range and extended golf course at Llangefni offers both experienced golfers and beginners an affordable and welcoming community golfing facility.”
He added, “It’s also good news for Anglesey that the course has been chosen as the regional golf academy for North West Wales. The hope is that we can widen the appeal of the sport and inspire a new generation of golfers.”
The Llangefni golf course also has a new dedicated practice ground and artificial greens for training young golfers.
The new facilities at Llangefni include:
- A 16 bay 270 metre floodlit driving range
- Two new par four holes and one new par three hole
- Short training course for the academy
The course is open from 08:00 until sun set everyday and no later than 21:00 during the summer. The driving range opens daily at 10:00, until 21:00 on weekdays and 18:00 at weekends. For more information and to book a session call 01248 722193.
