Over 800 young instrumentalists and singers from across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan are preparing to get everyone in the festive spirit with a bumper schedule of seasonal concerts.
The Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan (CCVG) Music Service will be presenting nine performances this December involving 22 ensembles.
Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, Cllr Julia Magill, said: “It’s fantastic to see the music service involved in so many events once again this year. The music students and their tutors have been hard at work rehearsing for their performances for months and I’m sure their performances will be thoroughly enjoyed by all who go along to watch the concerts.”
The seasonal entertainment starts with the CCVG Junior Schools’ Choir Christmas Concert at St German’s Church in Star Street, Adamsdown on Tuesday, December 3rd at 7pm.
On Saturday December 7th the Foundation Brass Band will perform on the Glanfa Stage of the Wales Millenium Centre at 10am.On Monday 9th December the Transitional Wind Band will perform at St Andrew’s & St Teilo’s Church, Woodville Road, at 7pm with tickets available at the door. This concert will also feature the Advanced Percussion Ensemble.
On Tuesday 10th the Youth Wind Band will share a concert with Abergavenny Borough Band at Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral, which starts at 7.30pm
The annual Christmas Showcase takes place on Wednesday December 11th at St David’s Hall at 7pm, with seven county ensembles: the Youth Brass Band, Advanced Percussion, High Schools’ Wind Band, Junior Jazz, Youth Big Band, High Schools’ Choir and High Schools’ Orchestra, plus a 200-strong Primary Cluster Choir consisting of the primary schools which feed into Radyr Comprehensive School.
On Saturday 14th December at 10am, the Music Service Brass Bands and Percussion Ensembles will perform to parents and carers at the Friary Centre while Symphonic Brass will be sharing an evening concert with the Cardiff Ardwyn Singers at All Saints Church Penarth starting at 7.30pm.
The annual “Christmas Celebration” takes place at City Hall on Monday, December 16th at 7.30am, with tickets available on the door, and once again features the talents of the Youth Orchestra and Youth Choir in a heart-warming concert.
On Saturday December 21st the season’s musical festivities will come to a conclusion when the Youth Orchestra perform Shostakovitch’s “Leningrad” Symphony at the BBC’s Hoddinott Hall at the Wales Millenium Centre at 7pm.
