A group of young people in a rural area of Swansea have done their bit to make sure children and teenagers in their community can keep fit and stay healthy.
Eight Garnswllt youngsters between the ages of 11 and 16 are launching their “Equipment in the Park” scheme on Wednesday, May 11.
The ingenious project was designed by the group themselves and realised with the help of Swansea Council’s Rural Youth Work Team and a small grant from Swansea Youth Bank.
It will see the creation of a sports equipment store in Lon Y Felin park. Parents and guardians will have to sign a contract to ensure the kit is returned.
Suzy Mayhew from the Rural Youth Team said: “The store contains things like tennis racquets, cricket equipment, golf equipment and rugby equipment.
“The young people wanted people to be able to use these things for free and because they all have little brothers or sisters, they have thought about providing for them too.”
The launch of the Equipment in the Park scheme takes place at Garnswllt Hall on Wednesday May 1, at 6pm, with tea and cakes and the opportunity to sign up to the scheme.
