Young people represent Blaenau Gwent at the second UK Youth Parliament

Five Blaenau Gwent teenagers had their voices heard in the world famous House of Commons at the second UK Youth Parliament debate.

Ffion Morgan, Polly Bainton, Lowri Suiter, Bethan Adshead and Leon Selway spoke about issues affecting young people today in a debate chaired by real Speaker of the House John Bercow.

Topics covered by the 300 young people included university fees, sex education, the war in Afghanistan, the school leaving age and reduced transport costs for young people.

Blaenau Gwent Council organised the trip through its work with the Blaenau Gwent Youth Forum which gives young people the opportunity to have a voice on issues that affect them and get involved in local decision making.

Polly Bainton says of the trip to London:

“All the issues we debated are significant and relevant to the youth of today and hopefully the Government will take notice of what we had to say.”
