A group of Corwen youngsters will be heading to Alton Towers this Saturday as a ‘Thank you’ for not only helping to clean up their area but also for keeping it tidy.
Local Police Community Support Officer Jenny Studley will be accompanying the youngsters and parents to the theme park tomorrow after securing funding for the trip which was organised after the youngsters got their hands dirty in a clean up day held back in May.
Over 20 children and youngsters from Clawdd Poncen and Maesafallen gave up a day of their school half term holiday to don luminous jackets and safety gloves before spending hours bagging rubbish that had been strewn and generally helping to give a new look to the areas where they live.
“It was a great day, everyone worked really hard and lots of bin bags laden with all sorts of rubbish were collected,” said PCSO Studley. “It was organised in a bid to make the areas cleaner and more pleasant places to live.”
As well as having a buffet on the day to thank everyone involved, a trip to Alton Towers was also promised and on Saturday morning they will be heading for the theme park.
“The children and youngsters are so excited!” added PCSO Studley. “The trip is just to say a big ‘Thank you’ and to show my appreciation for their help when they all took part in a clean up day. To be fair to them – they have still been keeping the estates clean and tidy.”
Funding for the day at the theme park was gained from PACT (Police And Community Trust fund), Community Safety and help was also received from businesses in Corwen and Ruthin.
PCSO Studley added: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has been so kind and made a donation to fulfil these children’s dreams.”
