Young sportspeople from secondary schools across Rhondda Cynon Taf proved great ambassadors for the county when they travelled to one of our twin towns, Ravensburg in Germany, to compete in the third Twinning Games.
Students from Mountain Ash Comprehensive, Y Pant, Pontypridd High and Tonypandy Comprehensive competed in basketball, table tennis and indoor climbing with teams from twin towns Rivoli, Montelimar and Ravensburg.
Rivoli won the tournament outright, but Rhondda Cynon Taf’s team came tops in table tennis and second in volleyball.
Cllr John David, councillor responsible for town twinning, said: “This was an excellent opportunity for our young people to meet people from different nationalities, work together and learn about other nations.
“I am extremely proud of the way they behaved themselves and the way they represented the county. They were fantastic ambassadors for the county, and received praise from organisers, dignitaries, staff and members of the public for the dignified way they conducted themselves.
“We are already planning next year’s tournament in our other German twin town of Wolfenbuttel.”
Rhondda Cynon Taf pioneered the Twinning Games in 2007, when 100 young people stayed at the University of Glamorgan and competed against each other. The event was such a success that many participants made friendships with young people from our twin towns and visited them during their school holidays.
