Young people from across the Cynon Valley scored a victory for National Youth Work Week this month, thanks to a fun, friendly football match.
Mayor Cllr Robert Smith was guest of honour at the game, which took place between Mountain Ash YMCA and Chequers Youth Club in Aberdare.
Before kick-off at the game at Mountain Ash YMCA, Cllr Robert Smith spoke to the young people about National Youth Work week and why it was so important to take advantage of the range of activities that were on offer.
As well as celebrating the youth provision made possible thanks to the commitment of youth workers, Cllr Smith also used the event as an opportunity to promote the benefits of sports and outdoor activity.
He then officially began the match, which was won by Chequers.
Cllr Smith said: “Youth Work Week is very important as it celebrates the commitment and excellence of youth workers not only across Rhondda Cynon Taf, but the whole country.
“We all know the importance of providing a wide range of positive, engaging and exciting activities for young people and I am so proud of the work that is carried out on behalf of them in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
“We have youth centres, youth workers operating in schools and in the community, E3+ after-school provision, Duke of Edinburgh awards, 5×60 sports provision and more. We continue to engage with our younger residents to make sure we are meeting their needs and offering the range of activities they need.”
