Pupils at Ysgol Y Llys, Prestatyn have moved into a new 9 classroom extension to the school following more than 12 months’ work on site ready for the start of a new era at the school from September.
The new extension to the school is part of a wider project on site that will also see remodelling and refurbishment of parts of the old school building, creation of a larger on site car park and drop off zone, removal of all temporary accommodation and extensive external landscaping.
When completed in September 2014 the work will have seen an investment in the school by Welsh Government and Denbighshire County Council of £2.8 million. The project is in response to the growing demand for education through the medium of Welsh in the north of the County and will see the capacity of the school increased to 420.
Denbighshire County Council has worked in close partnership with the School, Governors, Contractor and other key stakeholders in developing and delivering the project.
Councillor Eryl Williams, Cabinet Lead Member for Education, said: “This project is great news for the school and demonstrates Denbighshire County Council’s continued commitment to invest in improving the counties schools making them fit for the delivery of a modern curriculum. With the pupils moving into the extension it marks the start of exciting new chapter in the school’s life”
An official opening for the school will be planned for the Autumn Term.
