An exciting new partnership has been launched in Ystrad Mynach, giving young people the opportunity to combine their enjoyment of sporting activities with the chance to socialise with friends in a safe environment.
Every Tuesday between 4 and 6pm youngsters can take part in dance and dodgeball sessions at the Ystrad Mynach Boys and Girls Clubs. The sessions target youngsters between the ages of 7-17 and are run in partnership with Sport Caerphilly, the Sports Council for Wales 5×60 scheme and the Ystrad Mynach Partnership. Dodgeball sessions will be organised by 5×60 Officer, John Hughes, and dance sessions will be run by Creazion Dance Company.
Cllr Alan Angel, Chair of the Ystrad Mynach Community Partnership said, “Our club will provide young people with something new to do in the evenings, but will also help them to get fit, learn new skills and have fun at the same time. I think it’s a fantastic idea and I hope that it will be a hit with young people for a long time to come.”
The club was officially opened by the Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr Lindsay Whittle, who even took part in a little “locking” and “popping” of his own. Cllr Whittle commented, ‘This facility provides an opportunity for youngsters in the local community to continue to develop the skills and fun that they have in school 5×60 sessions, keep fit and active as well as make new friends in a safe environment.”
