More than £587 was raised for Nightingale House Hospice by complementary therapy students at Glyndŵr University.

An open week at the Wrexham institution’s on-site clinic saw staff and students deliver treatments in exchange for minimum £10 donations towards the hospice.

Over three days at the end of August, patients dropped in for acupuncture, facial acupuncture, back massage, aromatherapy back and neck massage and reflexology.

Treatments were delivered by students on the university’s Complementary Therapies for Healthcare and Acupuncture degree programmes.

Paul Battersby and Caroline Lomas, both senior lecturers in Complementary Therapy, handed over £587.90 to Nightingale House Hospice area fundraiser Chris Andrews.

Paul said: “Patients were incredibly generous with their donations and we were amazed with the amount we raised.

“It was a great experience for our students as well. We prepare them to enter the industry and work as complementary therapists as soon as they graduate so the more practical experience they get the better.”

The money raised will contribute towards the £2.2 million needed this year to keep Nightingale House Hospice running.

Chris Andrews said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the Complementary Therapies team and students for the money which they’ve raised.

“We rely on the generosity of members of the public to support the hospice and every penny raised is vital to us. On behalf of everyone at Nightingale House I’d like to thank all of the patients who visited the clinic and made a donation.”

The complementary therapies clinic is open to members of the public on weekdays from 9am to 4pm. Appointments must be booked in advance by calling 01978 293403.

Glyndŵr University offers full time and part time courses in Acupuncture and Complementary Therapies for Healthcare.
