Denbighshire Council says no to dumping garden waste

Denbighshire County Council says it will not tolerate incidents of dumping garden waste across the county.

The fine spring weather has prompted people to start working in their gardens but the Council has been made aware  of incidents where garden waste has been found dumped in Denbigh, Rhuddlan, Dyserth, Cwm and the back road from Rhyl to Dyserth.

Fines of up to £5,000 can be issued when fly-tipping cases are taken to court.  The Council says residents need to be especially wary about handing waste over to contractors, because if the material ends up being fly tipped, it’s the resident who can end up being fined.

Steve Parker, Denbighshire’s Head of Environmental Services, said: ” The majority of our residents act very responsibly and dispose of their garden waste through the facilities that we provide – either in a green wheelie bin, in garden waste bags or at one of our recycling centres.

“But as we’ve seen, some garden waste has been dumped on grass verges or open land.  We are taking active steps to try to catch the people who are doing this.  Dumping garden waste is anti-social and it won’t be tolerated.  Letting somebody else dump the waste on your behalf is just as bad.”

Items that can be placed in green wheelie bins or garden waste bags are; grass cuttings, garden prunings, small branches, twigs, leaves, bark, flowers, plants, bark wood and wood shavings.
