Disability football on offer in Gwynedd

A brand-new disability football initiative is being offered in Gwynedd which will give those 16 and over an opportunity to hone their soccer skills as well as helping to work off some of that Christmas overindulgence.

A series of football training sessions held at Gwynedd Council’s Arfon Leisure Centre in Caernarfon are getting underway. The sessions which will be supervised by qualified football coaches will be open to all abilities.

Gwynedd Council’s
Disability Sport Wales Development Officer, Marcus Politis, said:

“There is currently just one recognised disability football initiative in Gwynedd which is based in Y Bala, and we hope this new initiative can be a significant development. We have held a few taster sessions before Christmas and we expect there to be enough interest to make this an ongoing weekly activity.

“As a Council, our aim is to offer a range of different sporting activities for people with disabilities. We hope that this new footballing initiative will prove popular with people across the area, and would encourage those interested in joining the sessions to come along.”

The weekly sessions will be held at the Arfon Leisure Centre in Caernarfon and are open to those 16 and over. The football sessions are held from 11am to midday. Each session costs £2.60. To register contact Jane Eade of Gwynedd Council on 01758 704010.
